July 2024 - Effect Racks + Writing Session

Tutorial 01 is about hi hats, loops and grooves. How i create fresh sounding loops from multiple sources to speed up my workflow.

Tutorial 02 is a no talking (i had a cold and my voice was sounding rough as hell haha) session where I'm having one last writing session on a forthcoming collab with Fearful. I break it down to avoid getting lost in the main project so i can focus on whats needed. 

The first tutorial in this bundle looks at creative layering and some inspiring ways to create new and interesting sounds.

The second focusses on sampling and resampling. I use a website called samplette.io to collect a new folder of sounds and then begin to chop and process them into new atmospherics, pads, leads and fxs

Inside this bundle is a 2 parter track workflow special. You can sit back and watch me work for 3 hours on a new track showcasing sample selection, sound design, rhythm, groove and trial & error. 

In this bundle, I dive in on kick synthesis and layering, this is also going to be really useful for those wanting to up their synthesis knowledge.

The second tutorial was inspired by a new synth i bought that day called SKY Keys, i thought id hit record and see what happens playing through some of the presets. There is so much to dive into with this synth as well as adding your own samples to control.

This bundles tutorials are focussed on random creation. I teach this so much and its such an important part of creating your own sounds and style. It's also super fun and one of the best ways of learning new instruments, effects or even the power or your DAW.

I go through a lot of trial and error in these sessions and not everything will be usable, but stay locked for some new creative inspiration

In this bundle we're going to be looking over bass sound design focussing more on getting those funky movements and tone. You will learn how basic modulation works as well as ordering your effects chain for new and interesting results.

For the second tutorial, I do a deep dive of my track 'Turn The Tape' showing you sample selection, arrangement, sound design theory and intro building

In this bundle you can watch almost 3 hours of tutorials! Starting off with an Operator sound design session creating a load of different sounds to take into projects with the power of FM.

The second tutorial is another track workflow session where you get to see my creative process in action as i intentionally force happy accidents through trial and error to inspire me to progress with the track.

Noise is such an important part of music production, and i cover 4 techniques i use in almost every track.

The hoover is a historic sound in drum and bass and dance music, i show you how to set up the sound and then get lost absolutely destroying it to create new and inspiring low notes

As we head into Autumn here in the northern hemisphere, I've put together two cold as fuck tutorials.

Kicking things off with a track breakdown of my colab with Revan; 'Special Ingredient'. I take you on an in depth journey through the bass design, drum progression and arrangement theory behind this track.

For the next tutorial I strip things back away from synth design and take a sine wave loop and create new and inspiring modulations using just filtering, eq and distortion.

The first tutorial is all about how AI is entering the music production industry and how you can use some of these tools to your advantage. Some are basic and in the early stages and some just need some creativity to adapt into your music.

The second tutorial shows how I finished off the writing section for my track Powder. I love to just hit record and play around creating sounds that can be used as FX, leads and pads to add that last 5/10% to my track

Inside this months production pack I look back over a project and breakdown how I created the drums, looking at layering, groove and punch.

For this month's tutorial I walk you through a simple pad layering technique to create rich and full music beds with interesting movement and dynamics using just one sample.

I use this technique a lot when building intro's and is a great way of adding complexity to an otherwise basic sound

This months tutorial is titled 'Glueing Sections' where i take you through 3 different simple but effective techniques to help seamlessly progress from one section to another using fills, risers, fx automation and adding space.

You can hear similar sounds and techniques across my music and are go to methods when stuck on how to progress my track and further develop my ideas.

For this month I go in depth discussing macro's and how to make simple things complex making a reverb / riser chain to create atmosphere and space with just one knob control.

This is an amazing workflow as well as creative tool offering the simplicity of being able to just automate one line for instant space, width and tension to your track.

This tutorial is about making subs inside of Serum. Through a simple set up ill guide you on how to give your subs depth and warmth as well as layering the synth.

Altering the controls on the layered version will alter the timbre of your lower mid harmonics to create exciting new modulations and dynamics

Inside this tutorial i will be going over how i make stabs and knocks using both synthesis and sample based techniques. Both are used heavily in my production from the knocks in my tracks Speed Shades and Magnum Meal, and are super fun to play around with.

Altering small settings each time can cause really interesting results that are perfect for adding rhythm to a track or emphasising a kick or snares power in the track

For this tutorial I wanted to create a drum beat from start to finish covering topics such as sample selection; picking out the right hits for tonality and layering, dynamics; how to humanise your drums, levelling and retaining transients; to make sure your drums are well balanced and peaking through the mix.

This tutorial is perfect for beginners and veterans who want to dig deeper into how i approach my drums

For this tutorial I wanted to progress last months drum tutorial by creating a song from a simple idea and taking it all the way through to a full track.

You will see how I approach creating progressional ideas to keep the track interesting and evolving as well as arrangement to have clear and concise flow from start to finish
